High Altitude Testing of QFI System May 2008
In response to a Chinese National Standard stating that motorcycles need to be operable at 4500m altitude, Scion-Sprays has conducted initial testing of the Quantum Fuel Injection (QFI) system operating in a simulated “High Altitude” rig to establish hot fuel handling capabilities at an equivalent air pressure to 4500m altitude. At this altitude the air density is 40% less than at sea level. Initial “high altitude” testing demonstrated the systems capability to achieve successful hot restarts with fuel temperatures at 30degC. Future testing will focus on fully mapping the fuelling calibration to achieve automatic compensation for changes in barometric pressure using the on-board pressure sensor, allowing engines equipped with QFI systems to operate efficiently and seamlessly from sea level to high mountains without the need for operator action.
