Scion-Sprays in engine development programmes with major Chinese manufacturers - July 2008
Following a successful demonstration on a 125cc motorcycle, Scion-Sprays is working with Chinese motorcycle manufacturers to enable them to meet upcoming emissions legislations. There is also interest in larger applications from 150 to 250cc, and Scion-Sprays has now built an ATV/ Quad Bike demonstrator to complement development work on the test-bed in the UK and activities in China.
An oxygen sensor in the exhaust closes the loop on fuel control and when coupled with the 3-way exhaust catalyst, optimises the fuelling for best emissions and economy. We’ve successfully demonstrated fuel savings at part load and matched the full-load performance of the carburettor. The 4-stroke engine starts easily without a choke whatever the ambient temperature and fuelling is precisely controlled all the way to 8000 rpm.
Future work will focus on verifying compliance to forthcoming Chinese emissions legislation.
